Chlorinated paraffin 42# is a light yellow, viscous liquid widely used as a plasticizer and flame retardant. It is produced through the chlorination of paraffin hydrocarbons, offering low volatility, excellent flame resistance, and superior compatibility with various polymers.
It is soluble in most organic solvents and mineral oils, including toluene, chlorinated hydrocarbons, acetone, cyclohexanone, and ethyl acetate, but insoluble in water and ethanol. It is highly compatible with natural rubber, chloroprene rubber, and polyester. However, it slowly decomposes above 120°C, releasing HCl, with decomposition accelerated in the presence of metal compounds like iron and zinc.
Application
Chlorinated paraffin 42# is widely used in industrial applications to improve product flexibility, durability, and fire resistance.
● Plasticizer for chloroprene rubber, nitrile rubber, and SBS adhesives and sealants.
● Auxiliary plasticizer in polysulfide sealants for insulating glass applications.
● Flame retardant in PVC, rubber, paints, coatings, industrial lubricants, and textiles.
● Used in wire and cable insulation to enhance fire resistance and mechanical properties.
● Serves as a cost-effective alternative to traditional primary plasticizers like DOP (Dioctyl Phthalate).

● Storage conditions: Store in cool, dry places, avoiding direct sunlight and heat exposure. Keep containers tightly closed to prevent contamination and degradation.
● Handling precautions: Avoid prolonged exposure to air, as it may lead to oxidation and reduced quality. Use proper ventilation when handling the product to minimize HCl gas release during high-temperature processing.
